My City: Bombay Today

The weather today is brilliant. There was a light shower early this morning, so most of us woke up to the smell of light rain and moist earth. Its been overcast ever since. The air is very, very still but there's this musty breeze blowing every once in a while, promising rain with every whiff. The clouds look like they're about to burst. You can actually sense the anticipation in the air. People are sweating buckets, its that humid. Even then, the anticipation of rain and of the impending weekend has built up the Bombayite's mood. We're all stepping out for tea or coffee, hoping it rains while we're out there, and everyone is craving bhajjis, pakoras and wadas. But we're saving that for when it actually rains. The offices are quiet as I write this, as no one is in the mood to work anymore. And if people havent stepped out in groups for tea, cigarettes and gossip, they've made groups at somebody else's workstation. Most PCs have their screensavers on now. Some of us have thought its a very good time to listen to music, especially soulful or romantic numbers. Kishore, beatles, classical...boss included! I am craving a book and blanket already. Monsoon is on its way to Bombay, if not here already.....
